Water, Sanitation and Hygiene

The majority of the people in South West part of the Country rely on surface water such as small streams and unprotected traditional hand dug wells for human and animal consumption.

As a result, the communities are exposed to water borne diseases endangering their health status such as diarrhea, Amoeba, Giardiasis …etc.

Moreover, sanitation and hygiene education coverage in the district is the lowest by any standard and in most cases none exist. People take shower and wash their cloths in the same sources from which they take water for drinking.

Women and children who assume the responsibility of fetching water is the most affected portion of the community due to lack of this facilities. They have to travel long distance to fetch un protected water for household consumption which usually hang back girls from their education as compared to boys.
